Diesel ignites under extreme heat, after its burn it leaves behind a soot which is captured by the DPF. Once the soot levels reach a preset threshold, the computer will initiate DPF burn, you’ll sometimes notice this with a bit extra power and the idle higher than normal at idle.
If the DPF clean/burn procedure is interrupted, it will try again at your next drive. After several failed DPF clean attempts, the vehicle will go into limp mode and you will need to initiate a DPF burn manually.
For you to start a manual DPF clean.
- The engine temperature must be at least one bar on the gauge. Handbrake must be activated and vehicle must be in PARK.
- Without touching the brake pedal, press the START/STOP button twice until dash lights are illuminated.
- Within 5 seconds, press and hold the DPF button located on the right hand side of the steering column next to the mirror adjustments.
- If you have followed these instructions successfully, it will display on the cluster “Start engine with idle” at this time, press the brake pedal and start the engine via the START/STOP button.
- The engine will accelerate on its own to 2,000RPM.
- During this time, do not touch anything or it will cancel the DPF. Once complete, the RPM will return to normal and you will be notified with a complete message on the cluster.
